PHILANTHROPIC RECYCLING

Philanthropic recycling

Mount Trail is proud to announce its philanthropic recycling pilot project. In an effort to bring concrete solutions to the outdoor industry, we are finally launching this project that is close to our hearts.

When hiking equipment is no longer usable and repairable, Mount Trail avoids throwing it in the trash. We offer a second life to your equipment (regardless of the brand) by donating and recycling it for you.

Positive incentives to recycle

How does it work?

Mount Trail offers to bring your equipment to recycle hiking, camping and outdoor gear.

Bring your equipment

You can drop off your end-of-life and non-repairable equipment at our shop. (Post COVID)

Mount Trail offers outdoor equipment recycling with its partners.

We recycle it

Thanks to our partners, we keep the used material in stock and recycle it.

Mount Trail recycles outdoor equipment and donates to the United Way.

We make a donation

We donate to United Way !
1 item = $5 donation
2 items = $10 donation

Practical example

An unrepairable rain jacket. We will welcome you with with a coffee and a discussion about hiking!

We will look to see if we can create small items such as storage bags, belt bags, tents for stakes bags, etc.

We reuse the material where possible to reduce the environmental impact. Otherwise, we disassemble the product by material. We disassemble the product by material. We store the material. Once the volume is large enough, we ask our partner to recycle it.

More details

First, we look to see if we can repair your equipment free of charge.

If the answer is no, we begin the process of creating reused products from your material. This is the best way to reduce its environmental impact.

We offer a solution at the end of life of your equipment.

In the future

Our philanthropic recycling project is a pilot project. We do not accept mailings. In the future we will have drop-off points in major cities. When you pass by our shop, come and say hello! A space will be made available in the future to drop off broken and unrepairable material during closed hours.

We want to grow the program in Canada for the outdoor industry as well as other industries in our society. This is our vision!

All products used by the outdoor industry?

No. We have prioritized the materials used by Mount Trail but we also recycle a lot of materials used in the outdoor industry. Unfortunately, we're still a small business. We have been working for 6 months on this program and we will continue!

For materials we do not have partners for, we keep them in stock and will work to find a solution. The waste disposal in the wild is not a solution for us...
